The Whale at Liverpool St
If your a Londoner you will know of Liverpool street Station. Many people pass through this grand station on an hourly basis, the majority passing across its lower level in pursuit of their train. Often overlooked is the vast volume of space hovering above their heads. As part of my ‘Look up, London!’ series I have created an installation to raise awareness of important issues whilst helping the commute to see their surroundings in all their glory.
Suspended near the east entrance is a 1:1 scale Blue whale breaching over the bridge. I would use Blue rope (mesh netting) used on construction sites to symbolise the waves overhead which, in effect, submerge the commuters below. The Whale itself will be comprised of used recycling, the same as that found littering our oceans today. This is an installation to raise awareness, aimed at people who are far removed from this issue yet people none the less. People who can spread awareness and make a difference.
